javascript onmousedown funktioniert nicht

Habe einen javascriptbefehl für onmousedown in einen Link eingebaut.

Die Statuszeile soll dann einen bestimmten text anzeigen, nicht aber das linkziel!!

Leider funktioniert das nicht...

Weiss einer warum??

Probier es mal hiermit:

Oder du kannst auch onmouseover nehmen, oder ähnliches.
 
Ich hab den Eindruck, da kollidieren die Javascript-Befehle mit den CSS-Angaben für den A. Jedenfalls wenn ich das

a:link { font-family:Tahoma,Arial,Helvetica;font-size:9px;color:#8A7F09;text-decoration:none; }
a:visited { font-family:Tahoma,Arial,Helvetica;font-size:9px;color:#8A7F09;text-decoration:none; }
a:active { font-family:Tahoma,Arial,Helvetica;font-size:9px;color:#D45B24;text-decoration:none; }
a:hover { font-family:Tahoma,Arial,Helvetica;font-size:9px;color:#D45B24;;text-decoration:none; }

auskommentiere, dann gehts. Allerdings nur etwa jedes zweite Mal - strange Behaviour ;-)
Leider weiss ich nicht, wie sich das beheben lässt. Ich bau in so einem Fall die ganze Seite neu auf, mit dem onMouseover zu Beginn, und schaue ab wann es nicht mehr geht. Ist aber sehr zeitaufwendig.
